Nanette: A Very Brave Dog

and how one little dog showed her life

Nanette's Breakthrough!!

E-mail Print PDF

Nanette has had many fears. When she arrived with me 7 years ago, she WAS fear. One by one ...through the years and with healing from Rosi plus positive experiences with people and other canine friends, she has dropped the majority of her ' nightmares'!

One big fear was the wind! When there was a gale or even a bit of a gusty day, she declined to go outside. She would in fact retire immediately to the shoe cupboard. It was noticeable that her biggest fear was something dropping on her?? If we did go out during such weather, she would peer up at the roofs and shutters quite clearly expecting something to fall on her!!

I recall that during her two years in a Refuge, I had heard that at one time the woman in charge left without informing anyone and it was unattended during  a whole week !!!  Nanette was in there during that period when chaos reigned. No food or water for a week!! Some dogs were found injured or dead. This refuge is now closed. I suspect that her exorbitant fear of ' flying objects 'may have originated then.

We have a gale as I write this piece but Nanette is not in the shoe cupboard. She is still in her bed in the corner of this room!! Furthermore ,we have twice been out in this weather during the last two days. She did not resist and in fact took little notice of the wind whilst pursuing her favourite pastime...reading e mails from her friends in the hedges and leaving replies of course . Bravo Nanette!! You and I!  We have come such a long way together xxx
