GETTING STARTED
You need a clicker some tasty treats, thin slices of hot dogs, small squares of sandwich meats. Tiny pieces of cheese.
Treats should be about the size of your fingernail, or part of the dogs own daily meal allowance, as you don't want to fill the dog up too quickly or over feed with extra treats to put on weight.

INTRODUCING THE CLICKER
First of all establish that your dog is not sound sensitive by the clicker. Perhaps placing the clicker in your pocket, clicking and treating a few times, as the dog gets used to the sound. Then start to bring the clicker out a few times click and reward.
If the dog is happy at this stage then you are ready to go. If not keep it muffled in your pocket until your dog is happy. Or you can get ones called (the I-Click) which have a softer sound.
Soon your dog will understand that the sound is a fantastic thing as from that sound comes a reliable food reward !!!

FIRST BEHAVIOURS TO TEACH
TOUCH
This is a good behaviour to start with "Touch Hand"
Hold your hand out to the dog, right in front of its nose.
The dog will almost certainly sniff at your hand, as the nose touches your hand CLICK and reward your dog.
Repeat several times fairly quickly, then place your hand further away, see if your dog will move a little to touch your hand...if so...CLICK and REWARD good dog.
Do several short sessions 10 minutes at any one time, this keeps their interest not getting too bored.
Gradually hold your hand further away.

Once your dog is reliably going anywhere you place your hand to touch it. Now bring in the cue word.
Your dog moves forward soon as the dog nose your hand..Say..."Touch"...CLICK....REWARD....
Keep this up short sessions.
Repeat holding your hand out at different angles, invite your dog to come forward say "Touch"...dog touch hand...CLICK...REWARD.
This touch hand method is brilliant for teaching heel work moves, as you keep your hand beside you, and asked your dog to "Touch hand" walk a few paces, dog beside you...CLICK...REWARD...
Bingo...  ...You have completed the first session
in the "Clicker Experience"...Well Done....

Next time we will complete the phase of :-
OTHER BEHAVIOURS TO TEACH

I will be back to teach you these "Watch" this space

Good Luck Denise
