Nanette: A Very Brave Dog

and how one little dog showed her life

Dog 'ownership'...

E-mail Print PDF

Please take a moment to look into this dog's eyes!! a long moment......What you may see there is the raison d'etre for this website. We need look no further than the daily news to see evidence of the insanity of our race....no further than our own behaviours (if we have the courage to be honest) to see the power of the egoic mind....scared to look at ourselves? then let's look at our neighbour! Ha !!! easy to see it there isn't it?!! Enough said!!

We all know then what we are up against when it comes to an emotive subject like 'Animal Abuse'.

If we adopt an animal....what is our role? Should we 'educate' them by beating them into submission?

Obviously not!! Should we feed them inferior rubbish food ,because it's more 'practical' for us? Should we treat them as toys for the kids? Should we disregard their need for security and love and leave them alone for hours...days on end? Should we adopt or buy a dog and then dispose of it when we are fed up with it? Should we ....well!! There are too many 'should we's' to continue......sadly, all these abuses are common in our world.

The purpose of Nanette's website is to pose these and other questions appertaining to our ways of 'relating' to domestic animals.....to explore 'solutions' rather than find 'answers!' as long as we keep asking questions, it means we are becoming more 'conscious' and in becoming more 'conscious'.. we are becoming more compassionate, more wise with regard to our pets, projecting our own insecurities on to them less and less, ....like this, we create a happy dog, a healthy dog, a dog who recognizes our authority.... a spiritual quality which is very attractive to our canine friend...as opposed to the aggressivity of the accepted 'ego approach.'.

.Thus the day will come when we never hear of humans abusing animals and dogs subjected to insane devices such as muzzles!, electric collars, fences, etc plus all kinds of 'aversive' techniques!! Every time, we use an electric device or any of these 'techniques ' on an animal, we are admitting our own failure....our own moral weakness, our own level of fear!!!

For the most part I am sure we are totally unconscious of the crime we have committed in creating such a situation in the first place!! There are many wonderful associations, individuals and refuges working devotedly to alleviate these conditions but it's not enough!! As individuals.... as 'owners', we need to find the courage to admit areas where we may have gone wrong ourselves.. I will give you an example of my own failure.....

Having had dogs all my life since the age of 10 (now 75), I well remember a time before the 1950's, when pet foods (croquettes and tinned food) were unheard of. Our dogs ate meat, fish, veg and had bones daily!! Then some bright spark produced croquettes 'The perfect answer' !! No but certainly a very profitable commercial enterprise...! No imagination needed, no loving preparation, just a plateful of sterile, dry biscuits meal in and meal out, day in and day out....

.I fell into the trap...I had big dogs at the time and it was 'easy' ....I learned the hard way. I lost two German Shepherds through poor nutrition.....with illnesses which arose at a young age and were the result of nutritional lack......I didn't realise! It's a reason but it's not an excuse!

After that, I immersed myself in research....What I discovered was shocking. (There will eventually be an article on the site on this subject) Nanette and Bertie are fed on meat, fish, veg, rice, lentils, cheese and raw marrow bones (in appropriate amounts)

The only reason Nanette has gone to the vet in the last two years has been to have her nails cut!! Bertie (who has been with me for 7 months and who arrived with serious health issues) has had to have extensive tests....necessary I'm afraid ....he's all clear.

When he arrived, he had rather alarming epileptc type seizures and yet over the months, they have gradually become weaker and now he is almost clear.. I am quite certain that he was under nourished when he arrived...weighing under 3 kilos!! Good food plus some natural essences made by Rosi of 'Noah's Ark Essences' Love and psychological 'space' have slowly but surely brought about a healing......

Of course, in being prepared to try new and better ways of handling old problems with our canine companions, we become better humans....and the beauty is it rubs off in all our relationships!! with family, friends and partners.....it's a win win situation....Beautiful!!! Jil
